My Passion
I am passionate about empowering both individuals and enterprises using my unique holistic techniques.
This starts by identifying what it is the enterprise ought to be doing, then who is best suited to perform each role and, finally, how to promote this streamlined enterprise to the world through the internet, using the full range of tools, such as social media, search engines and word of mouth.
My story
I was born and raised in Drogheda, a small town just 30 miles north of Dublin in Ireland. With 3 brothers and 3 sisters I often found peace and quite by going for long bike rides or walks with my Father, who loved sharing his wisdom with me. This gave me a love for both learning and travel that I still have today.
At the age of 17 I left Ireland for England where I joined the Royal Air Force. While I enjoyed working on aircraft, I realized that this was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my working life as, although I enjoyed the problem solving, the hands on mechanics was not my passion.
I have always enjoyed creative thinking. When I look at a problem I begin to see the solution emerging as a picture. For me, solutions have colour, texture and form. Good solutions take the form of beautiful pictures.
My love of learning attracted me to the world of computing. It particularly appealed to me because it offered solutions to so many problems. I started off as a programmer and by the age of 32 I was a freelance computer consultant working with companies throughout the British Isles. By the age of 35 I had discovered my talent for being able to see the simplicity and elegance that underlies any enterprise – no matter what the size.
This discovery has enabled me to successfully work with some of the largest oil, gas and chemical companies in the world as well as several telecommunication companies, banks and financial institutions, utility corporations, railways and educational establishments.
My Creative Dream
For my 50th birthday I was fortunate to spend a month travelling in New Zealand. I absolutely fell in love with the country, particularly the South Island, and kept returning to it for holidays. In 2002 I decided that I had to share my knowledge and insights with the world on the power of using an holistic solution to business problems. I spent 4 months in our beautiful house in Queenstown writing a series of books that brought together all of the successful methods I had developed, used and tested. The Integrated Modelling Method was born!
Living my Dream
In 2003 my partner and I moved to South Island, New Zealand. Here, my partner currently runs an accommodation business and I have continued to follow my passion by adding yet more harmonising techniques to my holistic business solutions toolkit. The Integrated Modelling Method is now used in enterprises in New Zealand, Australia and America. It has also been adopted by Otago University, the oldest university in New Zealand, and the Otago Polytechnic. A new generation is now harnessing the power of this new approach.
Know Your Profile and Find Your Passion
In 2007 I was introduced to Wealth Dynamics Profiling, developed by the charismatic young entrepreneur, Roger Hamilton. This profiling technique is based on the learnings of the I Ching, one of the oldest of the Chinese classic texts, dating back to about 300BC. Knowing my profile (Creator) enabled me to understand why I so enjoy doing some things and so dislike doing others. It also showed me why I should not waste my energies striving to be good at everything!
When I do what I enjoy then it is not work because I am in the flow of my profile. When things are not enjoyable, although I can do them, and do them well, I now know it is because I am not working in my profile. I have also learned that, instead of working harder at these things, that I should give them to someone else whose has a passion for particular work – because it matches their profile.
My partner is a ‘Lord’ profile and enjoys totally different tasks to me and responds differently to situations. It has made an incredible difference to our working and personal relationships now that we know that we have different profiles. We are not meant to be the same. Our differences can now complement each other rather than clash.
This whole profiling experience resonated with me, so much so that I studied and became a certified Wealth Dynamics Practitioner. I now help enterprises understand their team dynamics resulting in a happier team and increased productivity. I also advise enterprises on staff recruitment, enabling them to recruit the correct profile for the vacant role.
Social Media
I came upon social media by accident. My first experience was with my daughters using Facebook. It took a while before I appreciated the power of this fantastic medium. I was introduced to Twitter by a colleague who was helping me set up a new ecommerce website. “What on earth could you usefully say using just 140 words?”, was my first reaction. Quite a lot! Was what I found out after a little practice.
My Eureka Moment
In the beginning I made the same mistake as so many others who come to social media. I saw it merely as a viral means of selling a product or a service. This was driven by the mindset of “what’s in it for me?”
You will not be surprised to hear that I had very little success with this approach and wondered why the ‘viral miracle” was not working for me.
My “Eureka” moment came when I was introduced to people such as Katie Freiling and Robert Grant who told me that the real value of social media came, not through taking, but through giving. I am not a selfish person and have always loved sharing my learning. But my old fashioned “sales” training was what had kicked in rather than my joy of sharing.
Now all of that has changed. I share all that I can whenever I can and people really do appreciate this and come to me to buy my products and services – amazing!
And how was I introduced to my Eureka moment? By other people sharing on social media with me.
Holistic Approach
My passion it to bring an holistic approach to your business enterprises from identifying what your enterprise ought to be doing to who ought to be performing each role within the enterprise and finally promoting your enterprise through the internet using social media, the search engines and word of mouth.
